Crocodile sighting at Yishun Dam ๐

It's not everyday that you can see a wild crocodile in urban Singapore. So any such sighting does get the local community excited. On the 8th of January 2025, thanks to the Instagram footage from SGFOLLOWSALL, we have a crocodile sighting. From the photo, you can clearly see a full-length crocodile tucked along the side of the water discharge channel of Yishun Dam i.e. where excess water from the Lower Seletar Reservoir is discharged to the sea.

According to NParks group director of wildlife management, Mr. How Choon Beng, the sighted crocodile is likely to be an estaurine crocodile which can grow up to 4 metres in length.
During my evening jogs, I can occasionally see some folks swimming and catching fishes in the sea waters. When the dam supervisor needs to discharge water into the sea, he would look out from the dam tower to see if there is anyone swimming or fishing nearby and blare out an announcement (for about 30-45 minutes) to advise the public to leave the waters as the currents from discharged water may endanger anyone in the waters.
All in all, I am glad to hear about this sighting, along with sightings of otters and free-ranging wild fowls in Yishun - adds to the appeal of Yishun as a town of nature.
