Understanding Nanyang Homemade Curry

Nanyang, meaning "South Seas," refers to the Southeast Asian Chinese diaspora, which influences the dishes offered at this stall. The concept revolves around traditional, homemade-style curry dishes that cater to local taste buds. The curry at Nanyang is rich, spicy, and coconut-based, creating a familiar and comforting experience for diners.

The flavor profile of Nanyang's curry is notable for its coconut milk richness, which imparts a slightly sweet taste complemented by mild spiciness. I would rate the level of spiciness as mildly spicy (1 small chilli🌢️ rating) - Nanyang curries are generally less fiery than traditional Indian curries.

My All-time Favourite

Curry Chicken Drumstick with Rice.

My all-time favourite is Curry Chicken Drumstick with rice. The curry is thick, rich and balanced (not oily nor diluted), offering a satisfying contrast to the plain white rice. The chicken is certainly fresh - you can taste the tenderness when you bite into it. And then for me, the highlight of the show are the potatoes - well-cooked (not too soft nor too raw-hard). In short, the dish has been consistently well-made and authentic for me and I do return every other week to indulge. 😍
