Visit Block 850 of Yishun town - a 500-metre walk from Khatib MRT station - and you will see the famous Pineapple sculpture or monument of Yishun. The gigantic pineapple sculpture pays tribute to Yishun's heritage and history with the Pineapple King himself, Mr. Lim Nee Soon.

Mr. Lim Nee Soon set up his rubber and pineapple trading company, Lim Nee Soon & Co, in 1911. His deep passion in cultivating pineapples and expanding the pineapple industry earned him the nickname "Pineapple King".

Lim's generosity was noted during World War I, when he gave pineapples to the officers and crew of HMS Malaya during the ship's stopover in Singapore. For his generous gift of pineapples to the soldiers, he received special recognition from Brigadier-General Dudley H. Ridout, who was the Commander of Troops in the Straits Settlements from 1915 to 1921.

The Pineapple Monument was launched on 31 July 2016, as part of a new art trail initiative to tell the history of Yishun.
