National Day and SG60 celebrations at Nee Soon East in Yishun

This year, Singapore celebrates its National Day, marking a significant milestone as the nation turns 60. For those who may not be familiar with how we celebrate in the heartlands, I wanted to share my experience of the festivities at Nee Soon East in Yishun.

These festivities are part of a series of celebrations commemorating the 60th birthday of Singapore under the NDP 2025 program (NDP stands for National Day Parade).

The evening celebration was a delightful experience. Fortunately, the night temperature was cool and not humid at all, providing a comfortable atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
I visited the NDP SG60 carnival at Nee Soon East, and I must say, the event was incredibly well planned and organized. The energy in the air was palpable.

The crowd was bustling with residents from the nearby residential areas, especially families with young children. It was heartwarming to see little ones waving mini Singapore flags, adding to the festive spirit.

There were various play stations set up for the kids, including bouncy castles, obstacle courses, merry-go-rounds, carousels, and even mini Viking ships. The laughter and joy of the children filled the air.

Adding to the fun were mascots of iconic Singaporean food. They mingled with the crowds, posing for we-fies. It was a charming sight to see everyone connecting and enjoying the moment.

At the main stage, passionate MCs guided the crowd through beloved Singaporean songs. We sang along to classics like 'Home,' 'Count on me, Singapore,' and 'We are Singapore.' These songs resonate deeply with us, reminding us of our shared identity and pride.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the spectacular drone show. As the sky lit up, the drones formed breathtaking patterns. We saw the SG60 logo, the Singapore flag, dazzling fireworks, and even formations resembling air force jets. The crowd erupted in applause and cheers, captivated by the display.

As the celebration progressed, it culminated in the cutting of a giant birthday cake. This cake was shared with all the children present at the carnival, a gesture that brought smiles to many faces.
All in all, it was a warm and joyous celebration in our heartland. The sense of community and togetherness was evident, and it made me proud to be part of this vibrant town.
As we look forward to the final celebration on the actual day, the 9th of August, I feel a wave of excitement. Majulah Singapore! Onward Singapore!
